Spend a day browsing Historic Deerfield, the original settlement in Franklin County. Then stop in to Yankee Candle - the "scenter" of New England - or ride the Norwotock Bike Trail for 18 miles through Connecticut Valley farm land. And if you love butterflies, you need to check out the butterfly conservatory, Magic Wings!
About 20 minutes east of here Shelburne Falls is the home of the Bridge of Flowers, glacial potholes, glassblowing, and candle and potterymaking. A High Ledges hike will reveal over 1000 orchids in late May and early June.
Follow the Mohawk Trail west around the hairpin curve to North Adams and Williamstown. Visit Mass MOCA, the Hoosick Tunnel museum, Clark Institute of Art and the Williams College Theater Festival. Other fun things to do include driving to the top of Mount Greylock - the highest mountain in Mass., the Hancock Shaker Village, the Norman Rockwell Museum the sleepy village of Stockbridge, and the Ashuwillticook bike trail.
